Throughout my Personal Training Certification and Fitness Nutrition curriculum with American Council on Exercise (ACE) I have come to rely on the following sources that have widely-accepted, evidenced-based principles relating to health and wellness. It is imperative to me that your wellness consulting is based upon long-standing research that has been proven and recommended for the general population. Individual adjustments can be made based on your specific goals, preferences and lifestyle.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA): An agency within the Department of Health and Human Services that monitors food and drug safety, oversees nutrition labeling and provides the public with credible health information.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA): An agency of the federal government responsible for developing and implementing policy on food and dietary recommendations, farming and agriculture.
Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP): A department within the USDA that works to improve the health and well-being of Americans by developing and promoting dietary guidelines that links scientific research to the nutritional needs of individuals.
Dietary Guidelines for Americans: Solid guide upon which to base nutritional needs and ratios that is updated and published every 5 years by the CNPP.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Protects America from health, safety and security threats. More specifically, the CDC conducts critical scientific research and provides health information that protects our nation against health threats and responds when they arise.
